Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte (Printable version)

Aromatic coffeehouse favorite made with real pumpkin, warm spices, and creamy milk.

# Ingredient list:

→ Pumpkin Spice Base

01 - 2 tablespoons pumpkin purée (unsweetened)
02 - 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (or cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves mix)
03 - 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (or maple syrup)

→ Milk & Coffee

04 - 1 ½ cups whole milk (or plant-based alternative)
05 - ½ cup strong brewed coffee or 2 shots espresso
06 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

→ Toppings

07 - Whipped cream
08 - Additional pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon for dusting

# Directions:

01 - In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together pumpkin purée, pumpkin pie spice, and sugar. Heat until warmed and fragrant, about 1 minute.
02 - Slowly add milk while whisking constantly. Heat until steaming but not boiling, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.
03 - Remove from heat and whisk in vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
04 - Froth the milk mixture using a frother, whisk, or blender until foamy and well-aerated.
05 - Pour hot coffee or espresso evenly into two mugs. Add the steamed pumpkin milk mixture on top, holding back foam to finish.
06 - Top with whipped cream and a dusting of pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon, if desired. Serve immediately while hot.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • Real pumpkin purée creates an authentic depth you cannot get from syrups
  • The spice blend fills your whole home with autumn warmth while it simmers
02 -
  • Never let the milk boil or it can develop a weird cooked taste and ruin the silky texture
  • Whisk the pumpkin base constantly when adding milk to avoid any stubborn lumps
03 -
  • Heat your mugs with hot water while preparing the drink so your latte stays warmer longer
  • Sprinkle the spice topping just before serving to keep it from dissolving into the foam
